Our client, a global engineering and manufacturing business, is looking for a Training & Competence Specialist to develop its competency frameworks and bring these together within its Learning Management System (LMS).This is a contract role for at least 12 months, with the potential to become permanent. The business welcomes interest from both candidates seeking a contract assignment and those who would see it as a potential route into a permanent position.
Working closely with managers and technical specialists, you’ll define what competence looks like across different roles, how it should be assessed and what evidence is needed. You’ll then ensure these requirements are properly structured within the LMS, giving the business a clear picture of existing capability and development needs.
The role
Your main focus will be building and maintaining role-based competency frameworks, matrices and assessment criteria, and ensuring the LMS reflects these accurately.
You will:
• Work with managers and technical specialists to identify the skills, knowledge and competence required for each role.
• Develop clear assessment criteria and consistent ways to capture evidence and review competence.
• Structure competency requirements within the LMS, linking them to relevant training and assessments.
• Identify competency gaps and support managers in agreeing suitable development plans.
• Coordinate the development and updating of learning and assessment content.
• Improve reporting so managers can monitor competence, training completion and certification expiry.
• Support audits by ensuring competency requirements and supporting evidence are clear and accessible.
You’ll work alongside a Training/HR Administrator who handles routine training bookings, record updates and LMS administration. Technical competence sign-off remains with the designated technical assessors.
About you
You’ll have practical experience developing competency frameworks and assessment processes, along with experience using an LMS to manage training and competence.
You should be comfortable speaking with technical specialists, asking questions and translating their knowledge into clear, usable standards. Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to make sense of training and competency data will also be important.
Experience within engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment would be particularly relevant. Knowledge of HSE and ISO requirements would be useful, as would experience with Oracle Fusion or a similar LMS.
A training and development qualification would be an advantage, although relevant practical experience is equally valued.
