Project Engineer - Dundee

We’re working with a specialist electronics manufacturing and assembly business based in Dundee, supporting customers across a range of industries with repair, refurbishment, and low-volume production.

They are looking to add a Project Engineer to their team, someone with a strong electronics and electrical background who enjoys getting hands-on with real-world technical challenges.

This is a role where curiosity and problem-solving matter just as much as experience.

The role

This position sits between engineering, production, and customer requirements. You’ll be responsible for assessing electronic assemblies, understanding faults at component level, and helping define the most effective route to repair or improvement.

In many cases, this will involve reverse engineering legacy or unsupported products, identifying how they function, and determining what needs to be fixed or replaced.

It’s a varied role that combines investigation, technical understanding, and practical problem-solving.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be reviewing electronic and electrical assemblies to understand faults and failure points, working down to component level where required.

You will support engineering carry  out reverse engineering activity on existing products, particularly where documentation is limited or unavailable.Working closely with production and technicians, you’ll help define repair methods, improvements, and processes to ensure products can be reliably restored or manufactured.

You’ll also support project-based work, taking ownership of specific jobs from initial assessment through to solution.

Over time, you’ll build a strong understanding of the types of products and challenges the business supports.

About you

You’ll have a background in electronics or electrical engineering, with the ability to understand circuits and diagnose faults at component level.

You might already be working as a Project Engineer, Electronics Engineer, or in a repair, test, or manufacturing environment.

Experience with reverse engineering, fault finding, or working with legacy systems would be particularly useful.

Equally important is your mindset, someone who enjoys figuring things out, is comfortable working with incomplete information, and takes a practical approach to problem-solving.

What’s on offer

This is an opportunity to join a close-knit engineering business where your input will have a direct impact.

The role offers variety, technical challenge, and the chance to work on a wide range of products rather than being tied to a single system or process.

It would suit someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, problem-solving, and seeing the outcome of their work in a tangible way.
