Graduate Sales Engineer - Dundee

As a Graduate Sales Engineer at Rautomead, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our approach to the US and Canadian markets by becoming the primary point of contact for customers and prospects. Based in Dundee, you will work closely with our experienced team and a retiring agent to learn the intricacies of our continuous casting technology, develop strong technical knowledge, and build lasting relationships with clients. This role offers a unique blend of technical learning and proactive sales, where you will identify new business opportunities, attend key industry shows, and support the growth of our spare parts and service offerings. What you'll be doing

  • Develop a deep understanding of Rautomead’s  products and technical capabilities to confidently engage with customers and prospects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers in the US and Canada, acting as their primary point of contact for sales and support.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities by researching potential clients, attending industry trade shows, and leveraging AI-driven lead generation tools.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including technical sales and engineering, to address customer needs, resolve issues, and support after-sales service initiatives.
  • Travel regularly to the US to work alongside the current agent during a structured handover period, gaining first hand experience of the market and customer base.
  • Manage the sales process for spare parts, consumables, and engineering services, ensuring smooth handoffs to the internal customer service team for order fulfillment and ongoing support.
  • Continuously develop your technical knowledge and sales skills through self-directed learning and mentorship from experienced colleagues.

What we're looking for

  • Strong technical aptitude, ideally with a background in STEM subjects such as mechanical engineering, science, or engineering, enabling credible and confident conversations with customers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with customers and internal teams alike.
  • Proactive and motivated to engage with the market, attend industry shows, and identify new business opportunities rather than relying on reactive sales.
  • Adaptable and resilient, comfortable working in a dynamic environment with a steep learning curve and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

What you'll need

  • A degree in a STEM subject such as mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical discipline is essential.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and understand electromechanical products and machinery.
  • Excellent communication skills to confidently engage with customers and internal teams.
  • A proactive, self-starter mindset with natural curiosity and a willingness to take ownership of learning and development.
  • Ability to travel regularly, including occasional trips to the US and Canada, to build relationships and support customer engagement.
  • Credibility and professionalism to represent the company effectively in a technical sales environment.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment without a formal training program, shaping your own development path.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and customer relationships over long sales cycles.
